Corrugated Steel Armored fiber–optic cables are often installed in a network for added mechanical protection. Two types of armoring exist: interlocking and corrugated. Interlocking armor is an aluminum armor that is helically wrapped around the cable and found in indoor and indoor/outdoor cables.

Cable ProtectionCorrugated Steel Armored (Dual Layer)
Cable ProtectionPolyethylene (PE), (Dual Layer Jacket)
Polyethylene, also referred to as PE, is a form of thermoplastic insulation. PE is found in various forms. It can be solid (common form) or foamed. One of the electrical differences between solid and foam is the dielectric constant. The dielectric constant of foamed PE is lower than solid PE. Solid PE is typically used as a wire insulation and not as a cable jacket. Due to the moisture resistance of PE it is typically used in a wet environment. Overall, PE insulation is stiff. The stiffness can vary based upon high and low density forms (HDPE and LDPE).
Technical Standard of ITU-T, TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC & ANSIInternational Standard Compliance
Optical characteristics meet ISO/IEC 11801, ITU-T G.652.D
Complies with Standard YD/T 901-2001 as well as IEC 60794-1
Overview & InformationsDescription
The fibers, 250μm, are positioned in a loose tube made of a high modulus plastic. The tubes are filled with a water-resistant filling compound. A Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) locates in the center of core as a non-metallic strength member. The tubes (and fillers) are stranded around the strength member into a compact and circular core. After an Aluminum Polyethylene Laminate (APL) moisture barrier is applied around the cable core, the cable is completed with a PE sheath
Objective & AdvantagesApplications
- Good mechanical and temperature performance
- High strength loose tube that is hydrolysis resistant
- Special tube filling compound ensure a critical protection of fiber
- Specially designed compact structure is good at preventing loose tubes from shrinking
- PE sheath protects cable from ultraviolet radiation
- Two parallel steel wires ensure tensile strength
- Small diameter, light weight and friendly installation
- Long delivery length
- The following measures are taken to ensure the cable watertight:
- Single Fiber Reinforced Plastic as the central strength member
- Loose tube filling compound
- 100% cable core filling
- APL moisture barrier
